Charter Sails embarks from two ports located on some of the best sailing grounds on the East Coast. The KathleenD departs from Sandy Hook Bay Marina, Highlands, New Jersey. As we motor out of the marina, sails are up in a matter of minutes and we sailing past historic sandy Hook Lighthouse.
Prime Time departs from Monmouth Cove Marina
in Port Monmouth, New Jersey in the heart of the
Gateway Region of the Jersey Shore. When we
embark from our dock we are in Sandy Hook Bay
in minutes. Hoist the sails, head up wind, adjust
the sheets (lines) and we're off! Looking north is
Staten Island, the Verrazano Bridge, the Manhattan
skyline and Coney Island. On a clear day you can
see the famous Parachute Ride, a New York City
landmark with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.
To the east is Sandy Hook and Sandy Hook Bay.
Sailing into Sandy Hook Bay we see the famous
Sandy Hook Lighthouse on our port (left) side and
rising above the Bay on our starboard (right) side
are the hills of Atlantic Highlands.
This unique area is the confluence of Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook Bay and Lower New York Bay. We have miles of
open water, reliable winds and beautiful backdrops.
These waters have a variety of interesting and historic small light houses which dot the bay, At the turn of the century, these lights were used to guide the tall ships as they entered New York Harbor.
Set our heading for north/northeast, round Sandy Hook and we are sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. Turn south and we sail along the Jersey Shore with it's beautiful beaches or head east towards the Rockaways.
